About Mail and SPAM
Alacrity Internet makes every attempt to ensure that our customers can
trust the email that they receive is from a valid source. Just as paper
mail is unauthenticated, so is email. However, there are certain
techniques that can be performed to minimize the amount of email that is
spoofed or send from untrusted sources. Alacrity Internet applies the
follows mail policies to all incoming email.
1) Per RFC 821,
http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc0821.txt,
mail servers are required to send a HELO message prior to exchanging
email. The HELO message sent by the sending mail server must use a valid
domain name. The following documentation describes how this policy is
implemented:
http://www.postfix.org/uce.html#smtpd_helo_restrictions
2) When receiving a message, the mail must be sent from a sender with a
valid return address. Email without a valid return address will be
rejected per
http://www.postfix.org/uce.html#smtpd_sender_restrictions 3) Mail servers that are identified as "open relays" by ORDB, http://www.ordb.org, will not be permitted to send mail to our customers as they are targets for spam relay. |
